Melpomeni Peppa graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1988. She trained in Pathology at the Pathology Clinic of the “Athens Polyclinic” Hospital (1991-1993) and in Endocrinology at the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, of the “Evangelismos” General Hospital (1995-1999). She served as an unpaid Scientific Associate of the Endocrinology Unit and Diabetes Center of the 1st Pediatric Clinic, “Agia Sophia” Children’s Hospital (1993-1995 & 1999-2000) where she prepared her doctoral thesis and received the title of doctor with the grade of “Excellent”. She completed her postgraduate training at the "Division of Experimental Diabetes and Aging, Department of Geriatrics, Mount Sinai & School of Medicine, NY, NY, USA) (2000-2003), where she dealt with the role of advanced glycation end products (AGE) and oxidative stress markers in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus, renal failure, aging and their complications, with in vivo, in vitro and clinical studies. In 2004, she was appointed as a Second Curator of Endocrinology in the Endocrinology Unit of the Second Pre-educational Pathological Clinic, P.G.N. "Attikon". In 2006, she entered the Medical School of the National University of Athens, starting at the rank of Lecturer and gradually progressed through all University ranks, in the Second Pre-educational Pathological Clinic, P.G.N. "Attikon". Since 2016, she has been working in parallel at the 3rd University Clinic, General Hospital "SOTIRIA". Since 2014, she has been Head of the Endocrinology and Metabolic Bone Diseases Unit, 2nd Pre-educational Pathological Clinic, General Hospital "Attikon". She is the coordinator of the evaluation committee for incoming and outgoing students (ERASMUS + /CIVIS), academically responsible for 5 European Universities. She participates in the Board of Directors or as a member of various Scientific Societies. In addition to administrative, clinical and teaching work, her research interests extend across the entire spectrum of endocrinology with particular emphasis on obesity, diabetes mellitus, metabolic bone diseases, endocrine oncology, the study of endocrine diseases in the transition period, the study of endocrine effects in neoplastic patients, in patients who survived childhood cancer, in patients with "special" infections, and in patients with mastocytosis. Ms. Peppa is a reviewer and editorial board advisor for international scientific journals, has written chapters in undergraduate and graduate textbooks, has published 104 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals with Hindex 40 and 9600 citations in the international bibliography, participates with lectures in 12 graduate study programs and in elective courses, as well as with speeches at educational seminars and conferences.
