LOKIA PLIOUTA is a Pathologist, Academic Fellow in Pathology-Diabetes Mellitus, at the 2nd Preparatory Pathology Clinic, ATTIKON General Hospital. She studied Medicine at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and specialized in Pathology at the ATTIKON University General Hospital. She is a PhD candidate at the Medical School of the University of Athens, with the subject of “Study of the mitochondrial peptide MOTS-c in the plasma of patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, who are receiving newer antidiabetic treatment” and a postgraduate student at the National University of Athens, in the postgraduate program “Cardiometabolic Medicine”. He is an Academic Fellow in Pathology-Diabetes, with a research subject of “Diabetes-Obesity” and clinical, research and teaching duties. He is the author of 5 articles in journals indexed in PubMed and more than 30 presentations at Greek and international conferences. He has received from the Hellenic Diabetes Society, the New Research Protocols Award for the research proposal entitled “Study of the action of the selective inhibitors of the Sodium/Glucose co-transporter type 2 (SGLT2) empagliflozin and dapagliflozin, in primary myocardial cell populations”. He participates in numerous multicenter phase 2 and 3 studies.
