Sotirios G. Papageorgiou is a Hematologist, Assistant Professor in the Hematology Unit of the 2nd Propaedeutic Internal Medicine Clinic National University of Athens at the “ATTIKON” General Hospital. He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1998. From 2002-2008 he specialized in Pathology and Hematology at the 2nd Preparatory Pathology Clinic and prepared his PhD thesis on the detection of mutations of the p16 and p27 genes in Myelodysplastic Syndromes. From 2011 to 2012, he worked as a clinical and research associate in the Hematology Department at the Royal Free Hospital in London, having received a scholarship from the Hellenic Hematology Society Foundation and trained in the department of Acute Leukemia and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation. His research interests focus on the investigation of molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis and prognosis of myeloid and lymphatic malignancies. He has participated in more than 30 clinical studies conducted at the Hematology Department of the 2nd General Hospital. Since 2018, he has been co-responsible for the Systemic Mastocytosis Clinic at the Attikon General Hospital, which is a center of expertise in rare diseases. He is a member of the Hellenic Society of Hematology and the European Society of Hematology. He has over 270 presentations at national and international conferences and is the author of more than 130 publications in international scientific journals.
