Panagiotis Tsirigotis, son of Dimitrios, is a Professor of Hematology and a member of the 2nd Hematology Unit since 2004. His clinical work focuses on Acute Leukemia with particular emphasis on Cellular Therapies and Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation. He is the scientific director of the Transplantation Program of the Hematology Unit of the 2nd Hematology Unit since 2010. Each year, a significant number of transplants are performed in patients with malignant hematological diseases at the Transplantation Unit of the 2nd Hematology Unit, while in recent years, cell therapies using lymphocytes with chimeric antigen receptors (CART-cells) have also been performed at the Unit. The Transplant Unit is under the supervision of the National Transplant Organization and also functions as a collection center for hematopoietic grafts for donation to patients abroad. Mr. Tsirigotis' research focuses on the application of immunotherapy methods to prevent leukemia relapse after allogeneic transplantation, such as the administration of donor lymphocytes, as well as on the investigation of the mechanisms of immune escape of malignancy. He also participates in research programs studying the immune microenvironment in patients with malignant hematological diseases, and in the development of animal models with the aim of studying the prevention of fungal infections in immunosuppressed patients. He participates in numerous international multicenter clinical studies with particular emphasis on the prevention and treatment of graft-versus-host disease.
