Konstantinos P. Markakis is a Pathologist specializing in diabetes mellitus, a Senior Curator of the National Health System at the Second Pre-Training Pathology Clinic (B’PPK) of the Medical School of the University of Athens at the “ATTIKON” General Hospital. He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1999. He also conducted basic research on mechanisms of atherogenesis at the Laboratory of Experimental Physiology of the Medical School of Athens where he completed his PhD. He specialized in Pathology at the 2nd General Hospital. He worked as a clinical associate and collaborator in basic research protocols at the Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Internal Medicine at King's College London in 2008. He received the title of specialist in Internal Medicine in 2009. He continued as a clinical and scientific associate of the 2nd General Hospital at the Diabetes Center and worked for two terms as Assistant Curator of Pathology at the 2nd General Hospital and in the Emergency Department at the "ATTIKON" General Hospital. From late 2013 to 2018, he joined the Diabetes Centre at the Manchester Royal Infirmary University Hospital where he worked as a Curator with a particular focus on modern technology in diabetes mellitus and the diabetic foot and participated in addition to his clinical duties in research activities and clinical studies. In 2018, he returned to the position of Curator at the 2nd Department of Diabetes. His research interests currently focus on the use of modern technology in diabetes mellitus. He has published in international and Greek journals and has participated in clinical studies in Greece and the United Kingdom and was a reviewer in international medical journals. He has given many speeches at Conferences and Seminars mainly in the field of diabetes mellitus and his teaching work includes teaching in four Postgraduate Studies Programs. He is a member of the Education Committee of the Hellenic Diabetes Society and a member of the Working Group on Modern Technology in the Treatment of Diabetes Mellitus of the Hellenic College of Metabolic Diseases.
