Katerina Tsega was born in Piraeus in 1979. She graduated with honors from Leonteio Lyceum of Nea Smyrni. After passing the national exams, she completed her studies at the Medical School of the University of Athens. In 2004, she attended the Department of Pediatric and Reproductive Endocrinology and Metabolism of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) of the USA. She then worked as a research associate at the Research Unit of the Attikon University Hospital and the National Diabetes Center from 2004 to 2012, when she completed her PhD thesis with honors, entitled “Study of glucose metabolism in peripheral tissues in patients with thyroid dysfunction”. In 2009, she completed her field service at the Galata General Hospital. From 2009-2015, she served at the 2nd Preparatory Pathology Clinic of the Attikon General Hospital, as a resident Pathologist. From 2016 to 2018, she specialized in the Department of Endocrinology-Metabolism and Diabetes of Emory University, in Atlanta, USA. In 2020, she received the title of specialization in Diabetes Mellitus from the Ministry of Health. Her clinical and research interests include the management of patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, as well as gestational diabetes, while she has particular experience in the latest technological developments related to the treatment and monitoring of patients with diabetes mellitus.
