Eleni Boutati was born in Athens and graduated from the Medical School of the National University of Athens, with a grade of “Very Good”. She trained in Internal Medicine, at the 2nd Pre-Degree Pathology Clinic of the Medical School of the National University of Athens and received her specialization in Pathology in 1991. In 1993, she received the title of Doctor of Medicine from the Medical School of the National University of Athens, with a grade of “Excellent”. From 1993-1996, she underwent further training at the Department of Medical Specialties-Infectious Diseases, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, USA. Between 1996-1998, she served as Medical Director at Smith Kline Beecham and from 1998-2001, as Medical Director at Novartis (Hellas) & member of the Executive Committee and the European Council of Medical Directors. In 2001 she was elected Lecturer for tenure, in 2006 Assistant Professor for tenure, in 2010 permanent Assistant Professor, in 2012 Associate Professor and in 2022 Professor of Internal Medicine - Diabetes Mellitus at the University of Athens. In addition to the specialty of Pathology, she holds the specializations of Infectious Diseases and Diabetes Mellitus. She has participated in many multicenter international studies. She has (co)organized a large number of Greek and International Conferences and has given numerous lectures at National and International Conferences. Her interests focus on Internal Medicine, Diabetes Mellitus - Metabolic Diseases and Infectious Diseases, as reflected by the writing of 20 chapters in undergraduate and 10 chapters in textbooks, the coordination of 3 chapters, the scientific editing of 2 books on Internal Medicine, as well as original publications after review in International journals.
